Gary Panter was an artist on the scene who kind of spanned the punk 70's and extended into the 80's. I can't recall any other artists having their own button the way that bands did. Gary created the iconic image for the Screamers poster that featured a black and white image of Tomata du Plenty screaming with his hair spiked straight up like a frozen geyser of india ink. He had various creations such as his comic alter ego, "Jimbo" who appeared in local papers and at least one Slash magazine cover. Gary was also married for a time to Nicole Panter who managed (wrangled is a better word) The Germs.

This button is another of Gary's creations, Welcome To The Atom Age. I don't know anything about what this is, I always assumed this creature was sort of a radioactive smog blob that was coming to conquer the earth. It does remind me of Roky Erikson's "Creature With The Atom Brain" song, so who knows what Gary listened to when he painted and drew?
